Raymond Woodrow Andersen, the son of Martin and Johanna (Jensen) Andersen, was born on January 8, 1924, in rural Harlan, Iowa. He attended country school through the eighth grade. On February 18, 1946, Raymond married Louisa Anna Kohl in Counci l Bluffs, Iowa. The couple farmed northeast of Harlan, where they raised 300-400 chickens a week. They worked together to butcher twice a week, dress, and deliver chickens in the Harlan area. Raymond and Louisa retired in 1987 and moved into Harla n.

Raymond was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan. A lifelong farmer and Shelby County resident, he enjoyed playing cards and going to dances. Raymond liked to travel, especially with his good friends, Linda and Ken Bruck. He als o liked to spend time running daily errands and going on casino trips. Raymond raised and tended a large vegetable garden and happily shared most of the produce with friends.

Raymond W. Andersen died on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Little Flower Haven Nursing Home in Earling, Iowa. He had reached the age of 94 years, 8 months, and 19 days.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Louisa Anna Andersen, on September 30, 1996; and three brothers, Robert Andersen, Arnold Andersen, and Harold Andersen; He is survived by nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

HARLAN ~ Louisa Anna Andersen, daughter of Atman and Anna Margretta (Andersen) Kohl, was born Jan. 10, 1924, in Cass Township, Shelby County, Iowa. She was raised near Tennant and graduated from Tennant High School in 1942. She married Raymond Andersen Feb. 18, 1946, in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie Co., Iowa. The couple made their home in Harlan, where she was active with the VFW #941 Auxliary , and regularly helped with the Bloodmobile. She died Sept. 30, 1996, at Myrtue Memorial Hospital at age 72 years, eight months and 20 days. Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, William Kohl. Survivors include her husband, Raymond Andersen of Harlan; one brother, Warren Kohl of Defiance; two sisters, Pearl Kenney of Overland Park, KS and Betty Christensen of Pueblo , CO; one sister~in~law, Rose Kohl of Woodbine, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Oct. 3, 1996, at Bumeister Funeral Home with Rev. Jon Benson of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, officiating. Casket bearers were Allan Ickes, Rick Andersen, Allan Andersen, Jim Christensen, Robert D. Andersen and Lam ont Christensen. Burial was in the Harlan Cemetery.
