Virgil Park, 81, of Colton, SD died on Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Covington Heights in Sioux Falls.

Virgil Lester Park was born on August 12, 1924, to Lester and Anna (Estergaard) Park on a farm northwest of Dell Rapids, SD known as "Happy Acres." It was on this farm he was raised with his older sisters, Grace, Verla, and Beulah. Virgil was bapt ized on January 11, 1929, and confirmed on June 26, 1938, at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. He attended Grinde Country School through his eighth grade year, at which time Virgil began farming with his dad. He met Idell Westre at a dance at th e Arkota Ballroom in 1949 and they married on September 19, 1950, in Sioux Falls. Virgil and Idell made their home on a farm in the Colton area until 1965, when they moved to "Happy Acres" where they continued farming. Together, he and Idell atten ded the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. Virgil served on the Taopi Township Board and the Grinde School Board.

Virgil and Idell loved to go dancing, were regular customers at Rentschler's Truck Stop and Cafe in Sioux Falls, and could often be seen going for a drive in their ‘98 Oldsmobile. From boyhood to adulthood, Virgil cherished his life on the far m with his family and his wife. He worked hard and savored each season from planting to harvesting. In addition to his love of the land, Virgil took pride in raising and showing cattle and purebred hogs. He was a kind, quiet, gentle person whic h was evident in his years of caring for Idell who passed away on March 18, 2006. Virgil loved to hear a good story and will always be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Idell, and his sister Grace Willard.

Those left to cherish his memory are is sisters, Verla Park and Beulah Van Bockern of Sioux Falls; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Willard of Colton; his brother-in-law, Sheldon Westre of Sioux Falls; his nieces and nephews, Jim (Jan) Willard, Roger (S herri) Willard, Linda (Les) Corporon, Carole(Glenn) Ungerer, David (Kathy) Willard, Robert (Rosemary) Willard, Dan Willard, Mark (Carlotta) Willard, Paul (Karen) Van Bockern, Donna (Dave) Krueger, Steve Van Bockern, Tom (Suzanne) Van Bockern, Bruc e (Gail) Van Bockern, Jim (Donna) Van Bockern, 32 great nieces and nephews, and 12 great-great nieces and nephews, along with many good friends.

Interment will be in the Dell Rapids Cemetery.
