Note | When lighthouses along the Queensland coast were converted to automatic in 1938 Tom and Gertie Patterson moved into the separate cottage on the corner of Cypress and Churchill Streets. The cottage was erected by Niels after selling the original fa mily home on the Esplanade. (Probably after the death of Julie in 1933). They all lived there for the rest of their days. The keeper's house on Woody Island was available to Tom and Gertie had they elected to stay there but different members of th e family used it for short holidays. Eventually it was demolished by vandals and white ants. Source: Colin Christensen Tom was the last lighthouse keeper at North Light on Woody Island. Source: booklet by Joan Christiansen of Hervey Bay May have been named Edward Thomas but birth certificate shows just Thomas |
